Tips for New Sites to Check Out

Want to thank everyone for coming to the Friday lunch today. It was great conversation, and lively dialog . As Bob stated, once you get the  neemee^TM bug you are hooked...everything you read or watch and find interesting you'll want to capture and share it. Before you get to that stage though, you often need a little help getting out of the blocks. Here is a list of some of my favorite websites that are bountiful locations for information.

Popurls.com - the best thing about popurls is the simple design, the customizable options for how much information you want to receive and the sites they have chose to aggregate. It's my number one stop in the day after neemee.

Alltop.com - the latest site being hawked by Guy Kawasaki is great to visit due to all the different concentrations it gives you. Interested Mom's, Animation, Vegan, History, Kids, Podcasts, the list is literally endless you can bet that Alltop has an area dedicated to the finest blogs under that topic.

Delicious.com - new stuff that has been captured by multiple sources inside the popular site known as Delicious.

Loud3r.com - as they say on their site, great content is hard to find. Leave the dirty work to the folks at this great aggregation site, as you discover the fashion, sneakers, and environment sections.

Now for those times when you have a specific question to get answered:

IceRocket.com - great for getting a feel from the unwashed masses.

Technorati.com - the authority on all things blogging

Tweetscan.com - how does the twitter-crowd feel about a particular topic?

Quintura.com - is a great search tool as well. Little more detailed than some people want, but just right for those of us who are visually stimulated.

That's nowhere near a complete list of site-starters on the web, but a good enough batch to keep us going for awhile. Please let me know via this site, or direct contact if we can do anything to increase your level of bliss with neemee.

neemee tips: Search by Tag Clouds

You already know how to search by simply typing a word into the "What's on your mind" box, but did you know you can search through tag clouds as well? In fact, when looking at cultural trends, this is probably the best method.

To search via tag clouds, click on the "thoughts" tab at the top of the page. Next, click on the "Tag clouds" link seen next to the arrow in the picture below. Now you can begin searching. Each time you click on a tag, it will narrow your search to include only thoughts and tags related to the first tag you clicked. You can continue refining your search by clicking on more tags. Anytime you want to see the actual thoughts simply click on the "grid" view link which is next to the "Tag Cloud" link.

You will also notice a "Source Cloud." This shows where all of the thoughts came from. Typically a website or blog, the source cloud will also show trends and popularity of various web destinations.

One last thing, you can also see the tag cloud of yourself and you collections. If you click the "Me" tab at the top of the page, you will see the same "tag cloud" link on the left side of the page. The same applies when you are looking inside a collection.

neemee Tips: Tagging

Tagging is a very simple process.  A tag is a descriptive keyword or term of what you capture.

The who, what, when, and where is always useful. But, what is it?

Tags tell a story about the Thought and also about the person who captured the Thought. Don’t be alarmed to see very emotional words in the Tags, we want the way people feel about the Thought to be captured as well. There are not a specific number of tags you should use, but the more the better as it will help you and others find the thought.

An example of a well tagged thought could be the following:

The thought was captured today by "ladyluck" and it is about "Pay-as-you-drive Car Insurance."
She tagged the thought car, tracking, insurance, gps, traffic congestion, privacy, drive, vehicle, satellite, alliance, mileage, savings, environmentalists, tansportation, premiums, motorist.

Again, that many tags is not necessary but you can see how well the thought is described. Feel free to add emotional words as well. "ladyluck" could have used "relief" or "exciting" to tag the thought.
