Know your fanbase or loyalists? Dissappoint them and you'll get to see another side of their personalities. Locke talks about expectation for a release, being let down, backlash and the careful waters one has to navigate once they get a loyal following. By the way, the opinions represented in the podcast do not necessarily represent the opinions of the corporation. However, I think my title of "Brand Sucking" is very clever, and it definitely represents the fact that I think I'm funny.

vampires are not a "new trend" in the fantasy fiction world. fyi. once a genre has blown up the best seller list it is no longer a cutting edge trend, but a mainstream one... and a boring one at that. you need new farmers!

"you're wrong",
absolutely love your perspective and appreciate the response. In regard to vampires not being a new trend I totally see your point, I think our Thoughtcast was going on the notion that Vampires are back...again - as far as needing some new Farmers...are you applying for a job? Contact me at aford@neemee.com if you're up for it - love to have a perspective from Des Moines.

Curious podcast. Hindsight 20/20, but I don't think many would/could argue that the Twilight movie release was a failure. Rather, I believe its first week garnered 3rd place all-time. I would argue that while everything you say in the podcast was true - it ignored the fact that the most vocal of any customer/fan are those the least satisfied. Those who are happy are less likely to "gush" than those who are not. It seems like focusing on the outer periphery of the popularity curve ignores the hight and even width of the mainstream portion. However, it is, of course, important to monitor and respond to the periphery as complacency can (and often does) lead to the fringes becoming the mainstream.
